Corn Exchange

Manchester

Location: Manchester, UK

Practice: 5plus Architects

Completion: Phase I completed 2015

Phase II Ongoing

Phase I: Redevelopment of the lower floors of Manchester's Corn Exchange into 100,000 sqft of food and beverage floor space.

Phase II: Redevelopment of the upper floors of Manchester's Corn Exchange into 4 floors of boutique hotel.

The iconic grade II listed building situated in the heart of Manchester City Centre underwent a complete internal overhaul to turn the building into the premier food and beverage destination for the city.

The design strategy focused on recreating active frontages and a central atrium, reversing the early 90s work, which saw the building turn into a shopping mall, returning it to its original design.

Phase I: I worked along side the project Architect during the tender process in completing drawings and documentation for costing and construction. I then shadowed the project during the construction phase.

Phase II: As an architect I worked on the feasibility of the conversation of the upper floors of the Corn Exchange into a boutique hotel.
